Stone Lodge Bowls Club is situated within the Pauls Sports and Social Club premises in Salmet Close, Ipswich, IP2 9BA, which is south west Ipswich, just off the Belstead Road.
The Green itself is one of the largest in Suffolk and is surrounded by a well-kept, landscaped garden. The Bowls Club has its own clubhouse with ladies and gents toilets and changing rooms. There is ample free parking in the main Pauls car park, which is adjacent to the Bowls Club entrance.
Stone Lodge Bowls history goes back to the 1940’s with Cranfield Brothers, the local flour millers. Stone Lodge Bowls Club was formed in the early 1980’s with the merging of Pauls Bowls and Cranfield Bowls clubs and the move to its present location.
The Club is affiliated to both bowling codes, i.e. Bowls England and The English Bowling Federation and its season runs from April through to September.
We cater for all abilities from beginners to county players. Some of our players have taken up the game after suffering an injury during play in some other sport, as they still wish to be competitive but need a gentler activity. Bowls can provide just the opportunity to play what can be a very exciting game of skill and to enjoy some socialising in a friendly atmosphere outside during the summer months.
We have league team games on most weekday evenings, along with various cup games and some Open Tournaments during the season. Members are also free to organise friendly roll ups at their own convenience. These allow the participants to play in a more social atmosphere and to practice their game with less intensity at the same time. Coaching is also available by arrangement.
We are an active club of some 55 members and are always looking to welcome new members of any age or level of experience.
